The EOC has handled about 160,000 enquires and around 10,000 complaints on matters related to equal opportunities since its inception in 1996. To date we have managed to secure monetary compensation of $32 million through conciliation and an additional amount of $25 million through legal assistance for the victims of discrimination on the grounds of sex, disability and family status. We feel that our efforts in helping people to obtain redress for their cases through conciliation and legal assistance has paid off.

Employers are always on a lookout for diligent, focused and loyal staff. However, employers sometimes have apprehensions of hiring a qualified person with visual impairment because of the lack of understanding about the disability. “Cando.hk”, developed by Hong Kong Society for the Blind, aims to change this by providing a platform for employers to find qualified employees with visual impairment through the use of their website. The website also provides a section where employers share their experience of working with people with visual impairment so that prospective employers can understand how it is to work with people with visual impairment.
