Mr. Peter KAMMERER   Mr. Peter KAMMERER
Editorial Writer/Columnist, South China Morning Post

Mr. Peter Kammerer graduated from the University of Southern Queensland in Australia with a degree in journalism and media.  He has been a journalist for over 28 years specializing in international stories and photography coverage in the newspapers.  Mr. Kammerer is currently the foreign editor and a regular columnist of the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Born with genetic glaucoma, Mr. Kammerer has completely lost his eye sights some 7 years ago.  This visual impairment had prevented him from dealing with photography but never stopped him from pursuing his dream.  With technological aides such as speech synthesizer computer software and digital voice recording devices, Mr. Kammerer relentlessly continues his success in the ever competitive world of newspaper editorial.  In fact, he is one of the four journalists with visual impairment in the world working for daily newspapers.

Visual impairment has also prompted Mr. Kammerer to further explore his talent in writing.  Apart from being an editor, he now has a popular weekly column in the SCMP and writes occasional news and feature articles.  As the two-time winner of the Hong Kong Newspaper Award for Feature Writing in 2005 and 2006, holder of the Society of Publishers in Asia Award consecutively from 2005 to 2007 and the Amnesty International Human Rights Award in 2005 and 2007, Mr. Kammerer will share with the audience his road to success in partnership with visual impairment.
