Students, mostly Chinese, grabbed the opportunity to visit Kowloon Mosque in Tsim Sha Tsui and learn about Islamic culture and tradition from Career Challenge Mentor Mr. Amirali Bakirali Nasir. They were very keen to learn about muslim culture and customs. They posed excitedly with Mr. Nasir and Mr. Raymong Tang, EOC Chairperson, inside the mosque. |

Daniyal A. NASIR, Mr. Nasir’s son, impressed everyone with his fluency in Cantonese while translating his father’s presentation. In order to enable his son to integrate in the Hong Kong society, Mr. Nasir sent Daniyal to a local school where he could learn Chinese. |

Mr. Nasir took the students on the tour of the mosque and explained about the significance of direction while praying. Muslims always face towards Mecca, the holiest city in Islam that is situated in Saudi Arabia, while praying. |

Prayer Time |

Mr. Nasir made special arrangements to allow female students to get inside the main prayer hall, where only men are allowed. It is a tradition for men and women to pray in separate halls in the mosque. Muslims pray five times a day—dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset and nightfall— and always cleanse themselves by washing before praying. |

The insightful presentation drew many questions from the students. They were keen to know whether Mr. Nasir faced racial discrimination in Hong Kong and what measures should be taken to promote racial harmony. Students demonstrated exceptional understanding and interest about race issues. |
