  Mentor's Introduction

  Ms Anna WU
Ms Anna WU

Senior Station Officer, Fire Services Department

Ms Anna Wu Lai-fong is one of the first female Senior Station Officers(there are two from the same batch) in the 125-year history of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department. Being a P.E. teacher in a secondary school, Anna Wu took part in the Government's first interview to recruit firewomen in 1993 because she wanted to beat the challenge. To get herself employed, Anna Wu strived to reach the same standard of fitness as men. She worked much harder than the others, running 5 kilometres on every alternate day, lifting weights, and doing push-ups and sit-ups during her training time.

After graduating from training school, Anna Wu became “Madam Wu” and took up the post of Probationary Station Officer. She was promoted to Senior Station Officer in 1998 and was posted from the Operations Division to the Community Relations Section of the Fire Prevention Bureau in 2002. She was responsible for educating and promoting knowledge on fire prevention for different organizations in the communities (especially hospitals). Madam Wu was further posted as a Training Officer, providing training for the trainees of the Fire Services Training School. She is also responsible for planning tailor-made training programmes for the youth. Madam Wu has been transferred to Operational Command since April 2009. She is now working at Po Lam Fire Station and required to attend any fire or special services incident.

Madam Wu loves to encourage the new generation by sharing her work experience with them. In addition to talks and workshops, she has also shared her insights by writing a book “The Firewomen” in 2007. Her success story was showcased in the TV drama “Impossible Is Nothing II” produced by the “Media Evangelism”.
