Our mentor Dr. Camoes Tam Chi-keung analyzed the changes and impact that the mass media has on its audience. According to Dr. Tam, it was difficult to convey a message from China to Europe a hundred years ago. It usually took 30 months. Nowadays, messages can be transmitted worldwide within a few seconds. However, in the era of information explosion, we frequently receive some unwanted information, of which some are even harmful to us.

While students are interested in knowing more about Dr. Tam’s career in journalism, he advised those who want to take up journalism to acquire knowledge about news ethics and law. Otherwise, he warns, one could easily make a slip while covering news and could even face legal liability.

When talking about the pseudo model phenomenon, Dr. Tam points out that in the past models would dress up sexily only for swimwear or lingerie promotion, but the pseudo models in recent years always expose their body in public. They are considered soliciting amorous attraction and are thus denounced by the public. This phenomenon has led to extensive discussion.

In the past Dr. Tam had advised the newspapers not to put the adult contents section with the column and feature page, stating that some column readers could be embarrassed. Some newspapers have reportedly taken his advice and separated the adult page from the column and feature. Dr. Tam believes this approach is more appropriate.
