Presentation title:
GIS Empower a Smart and Barrier-free Hong Kong
Presentation summary:
Building an inclusive and barrier-free environment is a prominent global initiative that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By fostering cities and human settlements that are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, this
endeavour contributes to the achievement of the SDGs. Hence, barrier-free communities are increasingly important in Hong Kong, especially in ageing districts where ensuring social inclusion, and improving living quality for individuals with physical challenges and
the underprivileged is crucial.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) play an indispensable role in enhancing the accessibility of our city by employing spatial analysis and network analysis. This presentation will introduce the fundamental concept of GIS for smart city development and how GIS
can enhance accessibility with the dataset available on the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) Portal, such as the 3D Pedestrian Network and Intelligent Road Network (IRN).
By showcasing the success cases of the applications, GIS contribute to promoting inclusiveness for people with specific needs, addressing physical barriers, and striving for greater equality, resilience, and accessibility throughout Hong Kong.
