  1. EOC to appear at Learning and Teaching Expo

There can be a million different ways to educate the next generation, but nurturing a respect for differences and diversity should always be an underlying principle.

Over the years, the EOC has developed a variety of resources for educators to spread the message of equality and inclusion both inside and outside of the classroom, such as YouTube documentaries, an accompanying learning kit, and the storybook series Tally & friends. Find out more about these offerings at Learning and Teaching Expo 2020, to be held from 9-11 December 2020 at Hall 3CDE, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Entering its 11th edition this year, the Expo offers policymakers, school principals and teachers from across Asia a comprehensive look at the latest developments in educational resources and learning technology.

The EOC booth is at A27. See you there!

  1. Let’s end the stigma around HIV

Illustrated image of a red ribbon forming the “O” in the word “hope”
Do you know what “undetectable = untransmittable” (u=u) refers to? What is PrEP and why does access to PrEP matter? As World AIDS Day (1 December) approaches, let us all broaden our knowledge about HIV and put up a better fight against the virus, not the people who are living with it.

Start by unlearning some myths and listening to the interview given by Mr Kirk NGAI, Advocacy Officer of AIDS Concern and a person living with HIV on RTHK Radio 2’s programme, Made in Hong Kong last Thursday (26 November 2020) during the segment “Equal Opportunities Diversity Project”. They talked about how public attitudes have shifted over the past 30 years.

Under Hong Kong’s Disability Discrimination Ordinance, the definition of disability covers the presence of disease-causing organisms, such as HIV, in the body. To help people living with HIV know more about their rights under the law, the EOC previously published an FAQ on its website, with a focus on healthcare and employment-related settings. 1. EOC’s LinkedIn hits 600 followers mark

Icon of LinkedIn
In just a few month’s time since its launch, the EOC’s LinkedIn page has acquired over 600 followers! Join the community now to get regular updates on best practices for promoting diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the workplace, as well as on webinars and other activities in our pipeline.

Amid COVID-19 and the economic recession, concerns have arisen over the possibility of businesses rolling back their D&I initiatives, mistakenly believing that they are a drain on resources when in fact there are proven benefits D&I could bring to the bottom line. To recognise private and public organisations who have and will continue to implement equal opportunity policies in the workplace, the EOC has recently rolled out the Equal Opportunity Employer Recognition Scheme. Details about award categories and eligibility can be accessed with the link below.
