Generation i
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) recognises the importance of instilling equal opportunity values in the younger generation from an early age, in order to build a truly inclusive society. The EOC first introduced a youth programme named Youth Challenge in 2002. Running annually, the programme provided young people with opportunities of learning how to challenge stereotypes and overcome barriers of gender, disability, family status and race to reach their goals. In 2010, the EOC opened the “Youth Challenge” facebook page to reach out to more young people. The programme was revamped and conducted in a new format in 2018, and was renamed “Generation i”, with the “i” meaning inclusion. This new programme aims at engaging Hong Kong’s secondary students to participate in experiential activities related to diversity and inclusion, with a view to encouraging them to combat discrimination and spreading related messages across different channels.
