The internet is changing the way we communicate, collect information or express our views. In a recent complaint case lodged with the EOC, a person posted racially derogatory remarks, which incited hatred towards people of a particular racial group, on an on-line discussion forum. This could lead to unlawful discrimination under the Race Discrimination Ordinance.
To encourage local companies to embrace employee volunteering and to raise awareness on the benefits for the community as well as for businesses, a non-profit organization, Community Business, will launch the second “Employee Volunteer Week” from 24 to 30 May 2010. Companies of all sizes and from all industries are invited to join. The EOC is one of the supporting organizations.
The International Labour Organization has developed a manual “EmployAbility” to assist employers in recruiting, hiring and retaining employees with disabilities. The practical guide provides good practices, policy samples, information on websites, etc. Some successful examples are also showcased to illustrate how the corporate sector can enhance competitiveness by employing persons with disabilities.
