Different and Equal

A key tenet of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is that disability is not inherent in a person, but rather results from the interaction between one’s body and environmental or attitudinal barriers.

An obvious example would be a building which only has stairs and no ramps at its entrances, and therefore is inaccessible to wheelchair users.

Contributed by members of the deaf community and people with visual and mobility challenges, the works in this section range from the mundane to the surreal. What unifies them is the loud and clear message that there are no disabled people, only disabling environments.
