The hard work of self-actualisation

Ming is currently studying in the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery Programme at a local university. Her counsellor has played a pivotal role in supporting her transition, arranging for her to live in a female dormitory and the removal of gender-specific questions from documents related to her internship.

It is certainly not an overnight change. Ming deferred her studies for a year to go through what is commonly called a “real-life test” in London, where she lived in her affirmed gender – as a woman – for most of the day. She was grateful for being able to do this in a trans-friendly city like London, an opportunity she knows many cannot afford.
