My father-in-law passed away five years ago. He was one of the elders in my life I respected the most. But I still can’t get over the fact that when my younger son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, he asked me if the condition ran in my family. I denied it right away. What he said broke my heart. It was almost suffocating. I had no idea a few words could be so hurtful.
