To promote the values of diversity, equal opportunities and inclusion (DEI) among the younger generation and rally young staunch supporters for equal opportunities, the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) introduced its first-ever Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme (the Scheme) in 2022, which received positive feedback from the Youth Ambassadors. To further promote the DEI values to young people, the EOC will continue to organise the Scheme in the 2023/24 academic year.
Under the six-month Scheme, an array of experiential learning activities will be arranged for the Youth Ambassadors to facilitate their understanding of equal opportunities. The following activities will be arranged subject to confirmation.
The occasion will enable the Youth Ambassadors to get to know each other. A brief talk on the work of the EOC and the anti-discrimination ordinances will also be arranged.
The Youth Ambassadors will learn how to be a guide runner in a training session with runners with visual and hearing impairment.
The Youth Ambassadors will understand the advantages of implementing diverse, equal and inclusive policy in the workplace through the visit.
The Youth Ambassadors will experience the culture of local and ethnic minority communities through visits to religious establishment(s) and famous landmarks, and tasting of traditional foods of different cultures.
Training session(s) on anti-sexual harassment will be arranged for the Youth Ambassadors to enrich their knowledge on sexual harassment and to empower them to become advocates of anti-sexual harassment on campus.
The Youth Ambassadors will be required to produce a product or organise an activity in groups to spread the anti-sexual harassment message on campus. They will be encouraged to use their creativity and networks to disseminate the message to their classmates and friends.
To enhance the Youth Ambassadors’ understanding of people with disabilities, they will be provided with an opportunity to meet students with special needs. They will be grouped with youth with disabilities into teams to explore the barrier-free environment in the community.
At the ceremony, the Youth Ambassadors will be presented with certificates to recognise their achievement.
Youth Ambassadors who have completed the Scheme with a satisfactory attendance rate would receive the following rewards:
An independent Assessment Panel made up of EOC Members will select the Youth Ambassadors. All decisions made by the Assessment Panel and the organiser in relation to the selection are final and binding.
