Leverage resources from Social Welfare Department to support your employees with disabilities

“We do want to hire more talents with disabilities, but we’re worried if we have the resources to adequately accommodate their needs.” From time to time, the EOC hears employers – smaller organisations especially – share versions of this feeling.

But the support is actually there. The Social Welfare Department of the HKSAR Government accepts applications year-round for its “Support Programme for Employees with Disabilities”, which provides subsidies for employers to procure assistive devices or modify the workplace.

Administered by Po Leung Kuk, the programme offers a maximum subsidy of HK$40,000 for each employee with disabilities. It covers a wide range of aids and workplace modifications, from captioning devices and screen magnifying software to the installation of handrails and tactile floors.
