Equal Opportunities Summer Youth Camp

24/07/1999

Over 270 students from 80 secondary schools participated in the Equal Opportunities Summer Youth Camp today (24 July 1999) at the Breakthrough Youth Village. The educational youth camp was jointly organised by The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) and Breakthrough.

"We are very pleased to be working with Breakthrough in organising this summer youth programme. It is part of our public education initiatives targeting at young people in the promotion of equal opportunities, " Mrs. Angela Ho, Chief Executive of the EOC, said.

"Discriminatory attitudes are often due to ignorance and misconception. In order to build a society without discrimination, it is essential to raise awareness and to educate the general public especially young people on concepts of equal opportunities," Mrs. Ho said.

The day camp featured outdoor games, training workshops and a variety show on equal opportunities. It was hoped that participants could get a better understanding of the concepts of equal opportunities through these activities.

The EOC and Breakthrough will organise another day camp on 21 August 1999 (Saturday). Secondary students between F.3 and F. 7 may register through the EOC Hotline at 2511-8211.
