  1. Respect Matters Most

EOC poster on preventing sexual harassment RainLily, Hong Kong’s one-stop centre for victims of sexual abuse, organized a special film screening on 16 June 2012. The Korean film “Silenced” revealed the sad and shocking story of a group of students with hearing impairment, who were victims of sustained sexual abuse by their school principal and teachers, but were misunderstood or neglected by the society at large. Belated justice only came after the film had sparked off wide public discontent in Korea. At the discussion forum immediately after the special screening, EOC Chairperson Mr. WK Lam remarked that victims of sexual abuse are typically hurt more deeply than are detectable, often becoming socially withdrawn and with their trust in people shattered. He observed that the deep-rooted reason for acts of sexual harassment or sexual abuse is due to the lack of respect for the dignity of others. He suggested that equality and mutual respect is the key to a healthier, happier and more inclusive society.
