  2. The EOC raises awareness on preventing sexual harassment in education settings

Poster on'A Matter of S/He', an online training course on preventing sexual harassment on campusThe EOC has been working with Hong Kong’s tertiary institutions over a number of years to raise awareness on preventing sexual harassment and increase gender sensitivity on campus. With the start of the 2012/13 school year, the EOC has expanded its cooperation network to include a total of 13 institutes for higher learning to promote “A Matter of S/He,” our online training course on preventing sexual harassment on campus, by distributing publicity materials to their students and staff. Since the module’s launch, over 4,000 students have undergone the training. To provide a platform for in-depth discussions on this topic, the EOC organised a forum on 14 August 2012 in collaboration with the Women’s Commission. The forum aimed to enhance the knowledge of preventing sexual harassment on campus for the university staff and students as well as to explore relevant preventive measures.

Symbols on defferent genderAs a follow up to the EOC’s “Exploratory Study on Gender Stereotyping and Its Impact on Male Gender” which was released in May this year, the EOC organised a sharing session on 25 August 2012 to elicit views and advance discussions on the topic. The event drew the attendance of 100 academia and stakeholders, who discussed the hardships currently faced by Hong Kong’s men and exchanged views on measures to empower the male gender. “Men in Hong Kong are bound by traditional stereotypes to be the main breadwinner. Many men face emotional problems as their jobs come under threat,” said Mr. LAM Woon-kwong, the EOC Chairperson, at the sharing session. “While our society continues to promote women’s status, it is important to understand men’s pressure and needs through their changing circumstances.”
