A high degree of passion emanated from Ashmi as we chatted about her journey in Hong Kong. Recalling her experience as a secondary student, she witnessed teachers holding prejudices about ethnicities and ethnic minorities struggling with a lack of opportunities to develop themselves and their careers. This became the catalyst for her drive to make a difference. She has been an appointed member of the Yau Tsim Mong District Council’s Working Group on Youth and Children’s Affairs, and is behind initiatives such as MAD conferences, JUNS HK and Musubi HK that continue to empower ethnic minorities even during these troubling times.
