The work of a domestic worker is much more than household chores. One of the most important things on our list is to look after the children of our employers. It doesn’t only mean feeding them and taking them to playdates; it is also about providing emotional and moral support while their parents are away. It requires trust, open communication and teamwork between us and our employers.
Sometimes there can be friction about how to raise a kid because of differences in age, culture, religion and personality. The most fulfilling part of our job, then, is being able to gain the trust, love and respect of our employers and their children. Indeed, trust is important for any employer-employee relationship, but in the case of a domestic worker, it is the core of the relationship.
