Battling Stigma

Stigma is a horrible thing. It eats away at you, forcing you to hide your true self deep in the closet. Coming out doesn’t seem like an option, as you fear it will cost you your family, your friends, or your job.

Although the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1990, with China following suit in 2001, many continue to perceive same-sex intimacy as deviant or even sinful. Meanwhile, stigma also haunts people living with depression or other mental health issues, often discouraging them from getting timely treatment.

Recounting real stories of people recovering from depression and members of the LGBT community, this section represents an earnest appeal to the public for greater understanding and empathy towards stigmatised groups in our society.
