Let’s end the stigma around HIV

Do you know what “undetectable = untransmittable” (u=u) refers to? What is PrEP and why does access to PrEP matter? As World AIDS Day (1 December) approaches, let us all broaden our knowledge about HIV and put up a better fight against the virus, not the people who are living with it.

Start by unlearning some myths and listening to the interview given by Mr Kirk NGAI, Advocacy Officer of AIDS Concern and a person living with HIV on RTHK Radio 2’s programme, Made in Hong Kong last Thursday (26 November 2020) during the segment “Equal Opportunities Diversity Project”. They talked about how public attitudes have shifted over the past 30 years.

Under Hong Kong’s Disability Discrimination Ordinance, the definition of disability covers the presence of disease-causing organisms, such as HIV, in the body. To help people living with HIV know more about their rights under the law, the EOC previously published an FAQ on its website, with a focus on healthcare and employment-related settings.
