EOC explains kindergarten admission arrangements in videos addressed to non-ethnic Chinese parents

As kindergartens have started admitting students for the 2022-23 school year, the EOC recently produced videos in Nepali and Urdu to explain to Nepalese and Pakistani parents the admission arrangements and related protections under the Race Discrimination Ordinance.

In order for their children to attend a K1 class in 2022-23, parents would need to apply for a Registration Certificate with the Education Bureau by the end of November 2021. In early October, the EOC explained the procedures in a video released on EMbRACE, a Facebook page dedicated to sharing useful information with ethnic minorities in Hong Kong. In another video, the EOC introduced resources for non-Chinese-speaking parents, such as an online portal with profiles of kindgartens in the city’s 18 districts, as well as interpretation services provided by NGOs.

The video series builds on the EOC’s past efforts to promote racial inclusion in kindergartens, including the publication of an “easy guide” for kindergartens to avoid racial discrimination in releasing information to parents, setting out admission policies and making interview arrangements.
