Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme returns this year with EOC as Independent Advisor

Digital technology is gaining unprecedented importance in the post-COVID new normal, but are organisations doing enough to make sure their digital offerings are accessible to people with disabilities?

The annual Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme, organised by Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited and co-organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, aims to promote and recognise best practice in accessible design for websites and mobile applications.

This year, the EOC is proud to be serving once again as the Independent Advisor of the Scheme, now open for application until 30 June 2022.

The Scheme features two streams, one for websites and another for mobile applications. Participating organisations will receive complimentary assessment and advisory services. Those with a track record of adopting accessible design will, depending on the number of criteria met, receive a Triple Gold Award, Gold Award, Silver Award or Friendly Website / Mobile App recognition.

The Scheme has received enthusiastic response over the years. In 2020, there were over 400 applications, 93% of which were given recognition. The recognised organisations hailed from a wide variety of sectors, from IT and real estate to retail and banking.
