Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme 2022-23 concludes successfully

The Award Ceremony for the 2022-23 Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme, organised by the Hong Kong Internet Registration Corporation Limited (HKIRC) and co-organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, was successfully concluded on 24 April 2023. The EOC was pleased to serve as the Independent Advisor to the Scheme again to promote digital accessibility. EOC Executive Director (Operations) Dr Ferrick CHU Chung-man was one of the guests of honour at the closing ceremony. Representatives from the EOC’s Policy, Research and Training Division also attended the event.

The Scheme aims to recognise companies or organisations that design accessible websites and mobile applications. This year, the Scheme received an enthusiastic response, with a 20%-surge in the participation rate. In particular, the financial industry showed a 131%-growth in the number of participants. It is encouraging to see more enterprises and organisations co-building an accessible Internet to foster an inclusive society.

Under the Scheme, the participating organisations were conferred the Gold Award, the Silver Award or the Friendly Website/ Mobile App Award, based on the number of accessibility criteria they fulfilled. Over 200 participants, who were honoured with the Gold Award for three consecutive scheme years, received the prestigious Triple Gold Award. Additionally, the Scheme awarded website or mobile app developers with the Designer Award or Recognised Designer for their contribution to creating an inclusive cyberspace.
