EOC wraps up the first-ever Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme

On 3 June 2023, the EOC held the Recognition Ceremony of the “Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme”, marking the completion of the six-month programme engaging 35 tertiary students. Commissioner for Youth of the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau Mr Wallace LAU Ka-ki was invited as the Guest of Honour of the ceremony, along with EOC Members, endorsers of the Scheme and representatives from various tertiary institutions.

Under the Scheme, tertiary students were recruited to act as Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors. Through a range of experiential learning activities, such as participating in sports with athletes with disabilities, visiting a guide dog training school, understanding a corporation’s inclusive policies during its open day and joining multicultural tours, they gained a deeper understanding of the lives of various communities and ethnic groups, and enriched their knowledge and experience of diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI).

Speaking at the ceremony, EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin said, “In line with the HKSAR Government’s youth development policy, the Scheme aims to cultivate positive thinking and values among young people, helping them understand the values of diversity and inclusion, and learn about the needs of different communities, so that they can play an active role in creating an inclusive society, and contribute to the development of our country and city.”

At the ceremony, the Youth Ambassadors were presented with certificates and shared their experiences and what they had learnt through the Scheme. Many of them expressed their appreciation for the first-hand experiences gained from the DEI activities, as they allowed them to gain knowledge beyond textbooks.

The Scheme will continue in the coming academic year. Details will be released on the Scheme’s website later.
