World Breastfeeding Week is officially celebrated during the first week of August every year, with the goal of raising public awareness and galvanising action on breastfeeding-related issues.

Since 2021, all women in Hong Kong are protected from discrimination and harassment on the grounds of breastfeeding under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance.

Natural Parenting Network, an NGO that advocates for breastfeeding, recently released a short animated video, which helps teachers educate primary school students on breastfeeding inclusivity and what sex discrimination means.

Funded under the EOC’s Community Participation Funding Programme, the lighthearted video uses a simple story line to tell students that it is normal for mothers to breastfeed their babies, and that everyone should respect these mothers without harassing or interrupting them.
