EOC organises Seminar on ‘Application of Accessible Technology in Catering Services’

Technology is revolutionising the catering industry, from the convenience of ordering food delivery at home to the prevalence of using electronic menus and self-service ordering at restaurants. With the introduction of accessible technology, customers with diverse needs, including but not limited to persons with disabilities, can also enjoy a satisfying dining experience.

In order to encourage the adoption of accessible technology and achieve digital inclusion in catering services, the EOC will hold a seminar titled ‘Application of Accessible Technology in Catering Services’ on 22 November (Wednesday). The seminar is designed for managers and executives from restaurant operation teams, information technology departments of restaurant groups, food delivery platforms and companies providing Point of Sale (POS) systems, among others. It is meant to follow up on the release of Hong Kong’s first Practical Guide on Universal Design for Catering Services (the “Guide”) by the EOC on 30 October 2023, which provides useful checklist and guidelines to assist the catering industry to enhance accessibility and adopt the principles of universal design.

During the seminar, EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin, IDS will deliver opening remarks and Executive Director (Operations) Dr Ferrick CHU Chung-man of the EOC will introduce the work of the EOC and anti-discrimination ordinances. Mr Robert HSU, Senior Manager of HSBC’s Digital Experience and Accessibility will provide an overview of digital accessibility. Additionally, Mr Ken LAM, Head of Digital & Technology Services (Hong Kong & Macao) at Jardine Restaurant Group, Mr Patrick SO, Director of Digital & Information Technology at Fairwood Holdings Limited and Ms Yoko FUNG, Head of Account Management at Deliveroo Hong Kong, will share some good practices of adopting accessible technology in the catering industries.
