EOC welcomes new cohort of Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors

The Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassador Scheme is designed to promote the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) to tertiary students through a wide range of experiential learning activities. Following the successful conclusion of the inaugural edition of the scheme last year, the EOC expanded the scheme this year, recruiting 43 tertiary students out of almost 170 applications to join the Scheme.

On 27 January 2024, the EOC organised an orientation gathering for the new cohort of Youth Ambassadors. Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin, EOC Chairperson, Mr Gary WONG Chi-him, Convenor of EOC’s Community Participation and Publicity Committee of the EOC, and EOC Member Ms Queenie CHAN Lai-kwan attended the event to welcome the Youth Ambassadors.

In his opening remarks, EOC Chairperson Mr Chu said, “To create a Hong Kong that is truly equal and inclusive, we need more young people to become allies. I want to encourage all of you to share the lessons you learned and the experiences you gained from the Scheme with your peers. Meaningful change does not come from individuals alone. Only when we join hands and work together can we transform society.”

The orientation gathering included an introduction on the EOC’s scope of work and the anti-discrimination ordinances, as well as various ice-breaking games to foster connections among the participants. A few Youth Ambassadors from last year’s Scheme also joined the event to share their experiences and give words of encouragement to the new cohort.

In the coming months, the Youth Ambassadors will have opportunities to engage in various DEI-related activities. These include learning how to be guide runners and run alongside athletes with disabilities, experiencing different cultures through visits to religious establishments, visiting a company that champions DEI, exploring barrier-free communities with students with special needs, and attending a workshop on anti-sexual harassment.
