EOC makes submissions to Government on 2024 Policy Address
The EOC has made two submissions to the Government in response to the public consultation on the 2024 Policy Address, offering a comprehensive range of recommendations aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion in the city.
In one submission, the EOC outlined 19 policy recommendations across seven key themes for the Government’s consideration, which are critical for building an equal and inclusive society. Proposed measures include:
- Tackling unconscious biases in digital public services;
- Implementing universal design principles and promoting accessible tourism;
- Enhancing protection of and support for persons with disabilities and young people with mental health needs;
- Strengthening the economic and social participation of persons with disabilities;
- Improving the availability of breastfeeding facilities and widening access to reproductive technologies;
- Promoting harmonious relations between ethnic communities; and
- Enriching education on equal opportunity-related issues (e.g., sexuality education, universal design) in schools and tertiary institutions.
In another submission titled ‘Promotion of Chinese Language Education and Career Planning for Non-Chinese Speaking Students’, the EOC called on the Government to tackle the educational challenges faced by non-Chinese speaking students, particularly in learning the Chinese language. The submission also emphasised the need for improved career planning for these students.
Both submissions are available on the EOC’s website.
