EOC Chairperson shares her vision with ‘Hong Kong Lawyer’

EOC Chairperson Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau shared her vision and views on the development of equal opportunities in Hong Kong in the October 2024 issue of Hong Kong Lawyer, the official journal of the Law Society of Hong Kong.

In the wide-ranging interview, Ms Lam highlighted the changes in the anti-discrimination legal framework over the years while underlining the EOC’s impact at the individual, organisational, and macro levels in promoting equal opportunities in Hong Kong. In addition to reviewing past achievements and milestones, she also commented on the growing prominence that artificial intelligence and automated systems will have on the equality landscape.

“We are still at the early stages of formulating responses to the challenge new technology poses, and it will require ongoing dialogue and collaborations across sectors to implement effective measures. We believe that the Government could play a leading role in this regard by developing inclusive digital public services that are useable by people with different abilities, as such practices could encourage the private sector to follow suit. In the long run, it may be necessary to enact new laws to require private digital service providers to offer human alternatives and ensure that their services are free of biases,” she said.
