‘Deafblind on the move’ truck raises awareness about deafblindness
The Resource Centre for the Deafblind of the Hong Kong Society for the Blind is launching the ‘Deafblind on the Move’ promotional truck to mark the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The truck will travel to various locations around the city to raise awareness about deafblindness – a condition characterised by the combined loss of sight and hearing, which significantly impacts an individual’s ability to communicate, access information, and navigate the environment.
Funded by the EOC’s 2023-2024 Community Participation Funding Programme on Equal Opportunities, the truck will feature an exhibition designed to educate visitors about deafblindness, effective communication strategies with individuals with the condition, and the protections offered by the Disability Discrimination Ordinance. Additionally, the truck will include interactive elements, allowing participants to experience aspects of deafblindness, interact with a talented balloon twister with deafblindness, and learn tactile sign language, a vital communication tool for people with deafblindness.
The schedule of the truck is as follows:
1pm – 6pm, 28 Nov (Thu) – Near Exit A of Tai Wai Station
1pm – 6pm, 29 Nov (Fri) – Near Causeway Bay Plaza I
1pm – 6pm, 30 Nov (Sat) & 1 Dec (Sun) – Haiphong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
