EOC participates in Barrier Busters 2024 to promote disability inclusion

“Barrier Busters” is an annual flagship fundraising event organised by the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation to provide community education on barrier-free access and disability inclusion. This year, the event was held on 15 December 2024. Featuring barrier-free city-orienteering experiences and a carnival, it attracted a diverse range of participants, including students, families, and representatives from corporations and NGOs.

EOC Chairperson Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau was one of the guests of honour officiating the event. Speaking at the event, she said, “The theme of this year’s ‘Barrier Buster’ is universal design. It’s a concept that the EOC is also committed to promoting, as it enables user-centred design that accommodates the diverse needs of individuals across different ages, abilities, and life statuses. Today’s event allows participants to deepen their understanding of universal design and the need for creating accessible environments.”

Four EOC staff members formed a corporate team to participate in the Barrier-free City Explorer Challenge, which involved travelling across Hong Kong to complete various tasks related to universal design and barrier-free design. The team came second runner-up in the Barrier Busters Charity Award for the Public Team category.
