EOC holds orientation gathering to welcome a new cohort of Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors
On 24 January 2026, the EOC held an orientation gathering for the new cohort of Equal Opportunity Youth Ambassadors (EOYAs). EOC Chairperson Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau, EOC Members Dr Theresa CUNANAN, Ms Aruna GURUNG and Mr Vishal MELWANI attended the event to welcome the Youth Ambassadors.
In her opening remarks, Ms Lam said, “We have 55 Youth Ambassadors from 16 tertiary institutions joining this year, which is our largest cohort to date. What impresses me most about this record is not just the number. Instead, it’s a testament to the passion and unwavering commitment your generation brings to the cause of equal opportunities.” Ms Lam also encouraged the Youth Ambassadors to cultivate an open-minded spirit and gain profound insights into equality issues by interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds through various experiential activities.
During the gathering, the Youth Ambassadors participated in ice-breaking games to get to know each other better, learnt about the EOC’s work and the anti-discrimination ordinances, and received insights and words of encouragement from a group of EOYA alumni from previous cohorts.
In the coming months, the Youth Ambassadors will participate in a wide range of experiential activities related to equal opportunities. These include visiting Mind Space, Hong Kong’s first Mental Health Experience Museum, learning to serve as a guide runner and exercising with athletes with disabilities, attending a workshop on preventing sexual harassment, experiencing the cultures of local and ethnic minority communities through multicultural tours, visiting a company that champions diversity, equality, inclusion (DEI) and universal design, and navigating the neighbourhood as a wheelchair user or carer.
