The year 2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the implementation of the Race Discrimination Ordinance (RDO). To kick-off celebrations on this important milestone, the Equal Opportunities Commission is organising a Racial Diversity & Inclusion Sports Day (Sports Day) on 21 April 2024 (Sunday). To promote the Sports Day and the 15th Anniversary of the RDO, the EOC launched a bus body advertising campaign on 8 April 2024, with 50 buses displaying the advertisement for three weeks. 

Aimed at promoting racial inclusion through the power of sports, the Sports Day will be held in the campus of the Event Partner, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. It will bring together schools, corporates, and non-governmental organisations for a variety of sporting competitions throughout the day. Through friendly tournaments, the Sports Day will encourage teamwork and cooperation among individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, while celebrating diversity. 

EOC Chairperson Mr Ricky CHU Man-kin said, “Sports is a great leveller.  When people play as a team, differences such as race, skin colour, and language recede into the background. There is a common goal and team members have to come together as one to win. It is for this reason we choose sports as the means to deliver the message of racial diversity and inclusion, and to mark the 15th anniversary of the implementation of the RDO. The event will also enable us to bring together different sectors of society to work together and make inclusion and cultural diversity a reality.”

The bus body advertising campaign runs from 8 to 28 April 2024, and features 50 buses operating along different routes across various parts of Hong Kong.
