EOC Launches “Harmony in the Universe” – Online Educational Modules for Primary School Students
16/12/2024
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) launches the “Harmony in the Universe” – Online Educational Modules for Primary School Students (educational modules) aimed at promoting equal opportunity messages to primary school students and helping them understand the concept of equal opportunities through a unique and engaging online learning experience.
Ms Linda LAM Mei-sau, EOC Chairperson, recommended the educational modules to educators and parents: “Children hold the future of our world. The EOC believes that instiling the concept of equal opportunities in children from a young age helps them avoid stereotypes and even prejudices, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion. For years, the EOC has been undertaking various educational initiatives targeting different audiences. These educational modules are specifically designed for primary school students, in alignment with the ‘Values Education Curriculum Framework 2021’ developed by the Education Bureau. We hope that children can develop empathy and learn to care for and respect others through watching the animated videos and using the companion teaching materials of the educational modules, thereby preventing behaviours such as bullying, prejudice and discrimination.”
The educational modules feature the animated short videos “Harmony in the Universe” as core teaching materials, which set against the space theme beloved by children. The series follows the adventures of two young astronauts from earth “Ah Ping” and “Harmony”, who encounter various people and situations while traveling through the universe. Through these experiences, they learn values such as empathy, care, and respect for others, gaining an understanding of equal opportunities and the importance of supporting diversity and inclusion. The vivid and interesting story telling, along with lively and distinct character personalities, are sure to captivate the attention of primary school students. The dedicated website for the educational modules hosts the “Harmony in the Universe” animated short films and provides a range of companion teaching materials, including discussion questions, observation games and tasks for understanding others’ needs, for primary school teachers, educators, and parents’ usage.
In the first phase, the EOC will release the animated videos and companion teaching materials for Lower Primary Module 1 “The Restaurant” and Upper Primary Module 1 “Recruitment”, facilitating primary school students to understand the importance of diversity and inclusion in a relatable and lively way. Stay tuned as the EOC continues to release more episodes, along with engaging animations and learning game materials.
The EOC invites all primary schools in Hong Kong and relevant educational institutions, principals, teachers and educators to visit the “Harmony in the Universe” webpage and utilise the animated short videos and companion teaching materials on the dedicated website to teach primary school students about equal opportunities. Meanwhile, the general public can also access the educational modules online and explore the exciting “Harmony in the Universe” with children at home.
