EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Disability Discrimination Case
12/11/2004
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (12 November 2004) initiated legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO), Cap. 487 in the District Court, on behalf of a woman who alleged that her former employer treated her less favourably and dismissed her on the ground of her walking difficulty as a result of thrombosis.
The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case on the basis that it is common for employers to discriminate against employees with a disability. Granting legal assistance in this case could serve the purpose of reminding employers of their obligations under the DDO.
