Chairperson of Equal Opportunities Commission Appointed(Issued by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region)

15/12/2004

The Government announced today (December 15) that the Chief Executive had appointed Mr Raymond Tang Yee-bong as Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) for five years with effect from January 12, 2005.

"We are glad that Mr Tang has accepted the appointment," a government spokesman said. "Mr Tang's strong legal background well qualifies him for overseeing the work of the EOC - to implement the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, the Disability Ordinance and the Family Status Discrimination Ordinance."

He has been the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data since November, 2001, a position of high standing in the community.

"We believe that, under Mr Tang's leadership the EOC will continue to uphold the principle of equal opportunities and meet new challenges ahead."

The Government also thanked Mrs Patricia Chu for her valuable contribution to the EOC in the past year.

"We look forward to her continuous support in promoting equal opportunities and equality in Hong Kong."
