EOC Supports Work of Commission on Poverty

18/02/2005

Responding to the first meeting of the Commission on Poverty, the Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, Raymond TANG said, "The EOC supports the work of the Commission on Poverty, and we urge its members to ensure that a level playing field is created for those marginalized in our society. Empowerment must be a top priority for the Commission on Poverty, in order to meet the needs of different groups, whether in access to equal opportunity in education, housing, health services or the employment field."

"The proper approach towards resolving poverty should not simply be he who has more, gives some to he who has less. The key is to introduce initiatives that are sustainable, to enable not just some, but everyone to benefit from the resources of our society, especially in times of an improving economy," Mr. TANG concluded.
