EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Disability Discrimination Case
26/11/2001
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today issued legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance, Cap. 487 in the District Court on behalf of 5 persons who worked as care-providers in the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Nursing Home in the Kowloon Bay Health Centre. In this case, there are three Defendants, all of whom were Richland Gardens residents at the time, who allegedly interfered with the care-providers as they went to or left work, and refused to let them pass through Richland Gardens in the same way as other members of the public.
The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case on the basis that the case raises an important principle in terms of the way care-providers are discriminated against because of their association with persons with disabilities.
