Release of the Study Report on the Procedures and Training Needs of the Immigration Department in Handling Persons with Disabilities

The Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), Ms. Anna WU, and Director (Disability), Mr. Frederick TONG, will meet the media at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, 30 October 2001) to release the EOC's study report on the procedures and training needs of the Immigration Department in handling persons with disabilities.
On the initiative of the EOC in August 2000, the Secretary for Security invited the EOC to provide advice "to enhance the relevant internal guidelines and staff training" to the Immigration Department, after the disappearance of Yu Man-Hon, an autistic boy, then 15 year-old who was mistakenly sent across the border by immigration officers last year.
Media representatives who wish to cover the press conference should arrive at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the office of the EOC, Unit 2002, 20/F., Office Tower, Convention Plaza, 1 Harbour Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong.
