The Equal Opportunities Commission Staged its Sixth Community Roadshow

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) staged a community roadshow today (4 December 1999) at Fu Tung Shopping Centre, Tung Chung where representatives from trade unions and a trade body spoke on different aspects of pregnancy discrimination in the employment sector and gender stereotyping.
The event was the sixth of a series of roadshows to promote equal opportunities in 18 districts throughout the territory.
Participating in the discussion were Mr. LEE Cheuk-yan, Ms. CHAN Yuen-han, Members of the Legislative Council; Mr. Anthony KWAN Wai-Ming, Committee Member of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce; Mr. CHAN King-lun, Member of Islands Provisional District Board and Dr. Priscilla CHUNG, Director (Gender) of the Equal Opportunities Commission.
"We wish to reach out to the community to promote the work of EOC and spread the message of equal opportunities," said Ms. Anna Wu, Chairperson of the EOC."I hope the discussion today on stereotyping and discriminatory practices would enable the public to have a better understanding of the issues involved. At the same time, I hope it would help change prejudice and discriminating attitudes and behaviours," Ms. Anna Wu added.
In addition to the discussion session, the roadshow featured exhibitions, video presentations, quiz games and a "meet the public" session.
