EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Pregnancy Discrimination Case
22/09/1999
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (22 September 1999) issued legal proceedings under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, Cap. 480 in the District Court on behalf of a woman who alleges that she was discriminated against by her former employer on the ground that she was a pregnant woman.
The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case on the basis that the case raises a question of principle in terms of pregnancy discrimination law in the field of employment and may lead to an authoritative decision in Hong Kong on both pregnancy discrimination and the remedies available to redress such problem.
