The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) is acting on behalf of a martial arts student in commencing legal proceedings today (20 September 1999) under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance (SDO), Cap. 480, in the District Court against the instructor or Sifu of the student for sexual harassment in the course of providing martial arts training.

The EOC has granted legal assistance to the student on the basis that the case can illustrate the operation of sexual harassment law in the field of provision of services and facilities by a coach or instructor of a sport or recreational activity.
