EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Disability Discrimination Case
13/06/2006
The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (13 June 2006) issued legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO), Cap. 487 in the District Court on behalf of a woman who was suffering from pituitary tumour. The plaintiff alleged that her former employer had discriminated against her by dismissing her on the ground of her illness while she was on sick leave and shortly after she had notified her employer of her condition.
The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case in the hope of establishing a precedent regarding dismissal of employees who were on sick leave for genuine reasons.
