EOC Statement

30/06/2006

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) welcomes the Council for Sustainable Development's Invitation and Response document "Enhancing Population Potential for a Sustainable Future", and will provide feedback to the Council in exploring options for a sustainable population policy.

The Chairperson of the EOC, Mr. Raymond Tang said, "We are pleased to see that the Council has highlighted a number of issues that have been raised and closely studied by the Commission, such as implementing family friendly policies, embracing diversity and improving accessibility for persons with disabilities."

"The Council's document also addresses an important aspect of population policy, and that is the contribution of women in the home and the workplace. More options allowing women to participate in the workforce would mean maximization of Hong Kong's investment in its people. This is a serious issue, and I urge the Council to consider all incentives to attain that goal," Mr. Tang concluded.
