The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (20 October 2006) initiated legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO), Cap. 487 in the District Court on behalf of a woman who was dismissed by her employer because of her leg injury and taking sick leave for treatment of illness.

The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case because it involves an important principle regarding employers' obligations to provide accommodation to employees with disabilities.
