EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Disability Discrimination Case

16/07/2007

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (16 July 2007) issued legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination (DDO), Cap 487 in the District Court on behalf of a wheelchair user. The plaintiff is complaining that he has great difficulty in moving in and out of the building where he resides, because the flights of steps at the entrance and passage pose a barrier to him. He is seeking the provision of a suitable wheelchair access in the premises.

The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case on the basis that it highlights the importance of providing adequate means of access to buildings for persons with a disability (PWDs). The Commission is working towards eliminating such types of discrimination, which is a barrier to PWDs.
