EOC Gives Legal Assistance in Disability Discrimination Case

17/09/2008

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (17 September 2008) initiated legal proceedings under the Disability Discrimination Ordinance (DDO), Cap. 487 in the District Court on behalf of a man who had suffered from stroke. The plaintiff alleged that his employer had discriminated against him by redeploying him to another position and eventually dismissing him on the ground of his disability.

The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case which might be a case of disability discrimination in employment in Hong Kong. The EOC hopes to remind employers that they need to take steps in preventing disability discrimination in the workplace.
