The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has today (28 April 2010) issued legal proceedings under the Sex Discrimination Ordinance, Cap. 480 in the District Court on behalf of a woman who alleges that she was discriminated against by her former employer on the ground of her pregnancy by terminating her contract.

The EOC has granted legal assistance in this case on the basis that pregnancy discrimination is still rife and must be eliminated from the workplace. By taking this case to court, the EOC hopes to deter pregnancy discrimination in employment.
