EOC welcomes the Government’s barrier-free improvement plan

07/12/2010

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) welcomes the Government’s positive response to and follow up action on the Formal Investigation Report on Accessibility in Publicly Accessible Premises released by the EOC on 7 June 2010.

Mr. LAM Woon-kwong, Chairperson of the EOC, said, “We are glad that the Government has taken the lead to make public premises and facilities accessible by drawing up an extensive retrofitting programme covering 3,900 premises and facilities. It is a major breakthrough on addressing accessibility issues in Hong Kong and will benefit hundreds of thousands people with disabilities and elderly people.”

“The Commission will examine the plan in detail and monitor its implementation in time,” said Mr. LAM.
